You know i understand that Leia’s inability and even unwillingness to reach out and talk to her own son even when they are almost face to face in Crait and wants him back badly is baffling to many including me.

But i also think what Leia is going through is what Han and Luke were going through. procrastination due to that innate feeling of how you have done something wrong and you can’t make it right with more effort. It could also be what i have heard is “executive dysfunction” which also fits into the overall dysfunctionality which we know is pervasive within our marquee family.

We know Leia feels guilty on how she handled her knowledge of Snoke and how she pushed Ben away when he needed her the most. I think it impacted her the same way it impacted Han who also went out of his way to not communicate with Ben and even Leia, two people he knows he wronged . It wasn’t until he actually faced Ben and Leia physically that Han, it seems, woke up from his stupor and did what he had to do functionally in years!! Same goes for Luke who might as well have seen Ben’s face in every way that counts.

I think its not an accident that Leia hasn’t actually seen her son’s face yet, and she is making all sorts of dysfunctional decisions because she just couldn’t cope yet with all that has happened. Almost if its a spell which could only be broken by looking at her child’s face and only then Leia can look at the terrible decisions she made for her son on the larger context that she wasn’t looking at for so long.

I don’t know what happens in Epix but a face to face with Leia is needed somehow.

And by Leia’s dysfunction not being clear to her i mean the idea that she thinks yearning for her son to come back and trying to project that feeling to Ben during a battle amd in a war in which her organization could kill him any day now would somehow convince Ben that her mother really does wants him back!

Oh Leia…

me: i lov obi wan kanoob haha 🙂

some guy: Ha ha! Right you are, my lady. Wow.
A female with knowledge of cinema’s finest accomplishment? Be still my heart!
Typically, I’m not so forward, but you have piqued my curiosity. A girl that likes Star Wars? A rare breed indeed! I love a smart girl over women who talk about make up, haha. Mayhaps we
could continue this conversation over drinks? As a Redditor – and a gilded one
at that – I wouldst make the evening magical and wonderful. I am not like the other men of this sick world. If you were dating me, I’d be the one making the sandwiches 🙂 haha :). I am real, my gorgeous, intelligent, scientific poppet. A real man who respects women, unlike the others. It’s one of the many things that make me different, my sweet, electronic
flower. Did I tell you I held a door open for a woman once? I know. And more of that to
come, I assure you. Imagine. You. Me. A little jazz
club in the city… none of that Lil’ Wayne/Taylor Swift crap the sheeple like
to listen to. Real music. Music fit for a lady of discriminating taste. And,
speaking of discrimination, during the meal I can expound at length about the
crime rates among African Americans vis a vis normal people. I am not racist. I am white, so how can I be racist? I know a lot of
statistics, my dearest, beautiful, white, female orchid. What say you, my lovely, succulent
peach? Will you do me the honor of being my date for the eve? Merely, tell me
the time and place and my mom and I will pick you up.

If Ben gets redeemed, what do you think would ideally happen to him according to SW’s themes? Do you think the writers might go a slightly different way?

frumfrumfroo:

Considering everything, there are only two options in my opinion. Either he dies and it’s a tragedy (and by ‘it’ I mean ‘Star Wars’, because that’s the narrative consequence of his death in context) or he survives redemption, the dust settles, and there is a moment of reflection about the past (possibly with Force ghosts and some nod to Han’s spiritual presence) before something conveying the peace restored to the galaxy and hope for the future.

So, reconciliation with past/family (this might be mostly carried by something with Lando since we’ve lost Carrie Fisher), acceptance by the Force and society (saved or revived by Rey after a sacrifice or long battle? and probably some kind of moment with Finn), and union with Rey (even if they didn’t make out, they’d be gazing into a future together side by side, but they will make out).

I don’t think it would be advisable or appropriate to try to be subversive or reinvent the wheel on this. It’s the big finish of a very traditional story. We need a great big sentimental happy ending about the triumph of SW’s heroic virtues, about the enduring victory of love and compassion over selfishness and violence. We need hope to be vindicated. It would be, imo, inexcusable to tear down the hopeful ending of RotJ only to offer less resolution and to undercut everything that ending was trying to say.

Exile is thematically wrong, space jail is absurd, loss of powers or further physical maiming both run completely contrary to SW’s concept of redemption and use of wholeness/beauty as a metaphor. So, you know, none of that. I imagine some kind of celebration (though they probably want to avoid being too much like RotJ, we have to feel we’ve come further) and probably something with the Falcon, perhaps the ever popular Ben and Rey flying into the sunset hyperspace.

“Being called a coward isn’t what bothered me… It was being called a great warrior. Even here on Coruscant, the home of the Jedi Council, there is little understanding of our purpose. We are seen as soldiers, servants of politicians, with little mention of the Force itself.

…our actions are a reflection of our purpose. Perhaps the Jedi Council residing here in the capital is part of the problem. We are used as a weapon of the Republic, and thus we are seen as such. Perhaps even by ourselves.

…I feel there is a loss of vision.”

Okay but that’s a fucking perfect Lightsaber Form VI stance right there, one-hand grip on the blade, off-hand folded across the chest so he could Force out AND deflect in one movement, that’s fucking Niman, the Way of the Rancor, goddamnit Kylo Ren

Honestly I replayed this part over and over again. It’s just so….hot? This is Kylo at his best.

Dear Tumblr @staff

Here’s a breakdown of why that “disclaimer” is problematic (and you really just dug yourself an even deeper hole)

  • You mocked users for taking issue with “female-presenting” nipples. Female bodies are policed more than enough in general society. People come to tumblr to be free in bodily expression. Also, “female-presenting nipples” are not inherently sexual. By making that distinction you are inherently sexualizing female bodies. Trying to establish sexist dichotomies on this site is never ever ever a good idea.
  • Hiding the work of NSFW artists or writers is not any better than outright deleting their work. They gain exposure through people seeing and reblogging their content. Some of them live off their works. This is also an attack on creative expression not just bodily or sexual expression.
  • Tumblr was one of the few places where people felt the freedom to create without puritanical judgment. If certain users didn’t want to see NSFW content, they can filter tags, unfollow, and even block the blogs that share such content. Please don’t act as if this was for the benefit of the users.
  • In your post, you indicated an example of acceptable nude art. So let me get this straight…nudity in art is only acceptable if it’s created to be put in an art gallery or by some dead white dude who commodified female bodies for other white dudes? That’s just obnoxiously pretentious and classist.
  • It is not the job of users to constantly help you fix your own shit. Users don’t make profit for putting in that kind of effort. You do.
  • You have already in fact actually deleted content and shut down entire blogs. So you are also deceiving users by saying you’re only hiding posts.
  • You use the LGBT presence on this site as virtue signaling for tumblr itself. While sex-policing one of the only places where they felt free to explore and depict their bodies and sexuality without being fetishized, stigmatized, or ostracized as “disgusting.” It’s additionally disrespectful for LGBT women…particularly LGBT women of color who almost never find an online safe space free of rape threats and derogatory sexism. Because their community on tumblr will at least shut the vitriol down instead of encouraging it as bystanders.
  • As many users have pointed out, you do nothing to curtail the racism, fascism, white supremacy, child pornography, and other problematic and harmful pockets that exist on this site, but instead choose to vilify healthy sexuality and exploration.
  • You didn’t engage any of the complaints or even acknowledge the media call-outs on your bs, but you write a super passive aggressive post aimed at the users…waiting until the very day your new move takes effect…so that it’s too late for any pushback.
  • If you’re going to make such a drastic change on a social media platform that was built to support free expression…. then at least have the balls to take accountability for people’s understandable reactions. You rose to prominence BECAUSE of your userbase who create such amazing content and share great ideas. At least have the decency to not insult their intelligence with that thinly veiled attempt at patronization.

Ok, my curiosity has gotten the better
of me. I’ve already said my piece (and then
some) in defense of Ben’s “You’re nothing. But not to me” monologue/proposal, and
why I see it as absolutely perfect on both a Watsonian and Doylist level, and
why Rey’s problem was the fact that he still wanted everyone who wasn’t them to
die. You know, something important. But
for all the comments chastising his (very true) statements and how a lot of them
basically boil down to ‘It’s not what he said, it’s how he said it,’ I’m still
like, Well how the hell else should he have said that? Because I’ve yet to see
someone put forth a hypothetically viable alternative. So now I’m genuinely
asking: If you had the opportunity to rewrite his monologue to be…I don’t even know,
whatever else you think it should’ve or could’ve been, what would you have him
say? While also keeping in mind that it should—

  •  be in character
  • adhere to the meaning and intent of
what he was trying to convey
  • and keep the meta-commentary about Rey
being an outsider to the Skywalker Saga intact

Not like it matters, because the movie’s been
made and it is what it is and the scene would’ve had the same outcome regardless.
But I’m genuinely wondering, this is kinda bothering me, lol.
